I don’t remember a second wine of Mouton being so outstanding. This is really plummy and juicy on the nose with flowers and lots of everything. Full and velvety with a lovely texture. Long and very pretty. Plenty of chocolate and lightly toasted oak. Bright and exciting.

About brand

Château Mouton Rothschild is one of the most prestigious wine estates in the Pauillac appellation, among the iconic properties of the Bordeaux Médoc region, recognized with the highest rank of Premier Grand Cru Classé status. Although it was originally classified as a Deuxième Cru in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, in 1973, after many years of consistent and determined efforts by Baron Philippe de Rothschild, the estate became the only one in history to be elevated to First Growth status.

The estate began to take shape in 1853, when Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild acquired vineyard plots then known as Château Brane-Mouton and renamed them after his family. During the early 20th century, the family’s vision and innovations, including bottling the harvest at the estate itself, helped expand the reputation of Mouton Rothschild to an international level. Since 1945, each vintage label has become a work of art. Every year, renowned artists are invited to create original designs; this tradition reflects the fusion of winemaking and artistic expression, which has become an integral part of Mouton Rothschild.

The estate’s vineyards cover approximately 90 hectares, with vines growing on fertile soils on the slopes of Pauillac, where the terroir consists of gravel and limestone, ensuring excellent drainage and suitable heat accumulation. These conditions allow the vines to reach exceptional ripeness. The main red grape varieties are: ‘Cabernet Sauvignon’, ‘Merlot’, ‘Cabernet Franc’, and ‘Petit Verdot’. They are blended to provide the wines with an intense aromatic profile, structure, and ageing potential.

Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled tanks, followed by ageing for around 18–20 months in French oak barrels, a significant proportion of which are new.

Château Mouton Rothschild wines are known for intense notes of black fruits, spices, smoky and mineral dimensions, accompanied by refined oak, firm tannic structure, and a long lingering finish. This expression gives the wines not only ageing potential for decades, but also consistent international recognition from both critics and collectors. The artistic tradition of Mouton Rothschild labels and the exceptional archive of vintage artworks further reinforce their status among the world’s wine icons.
