Masciarelli Marina Cvetic Merlot Terre Aquilane 2020 is one of the most expressive interpretations of international varieties by Masciarelli Tenute Agricole, in which ‘Merlot’ acquires unexpected depth and structure in the context of Abruzzo. The “Marina Cvetic” line represents a higher quality level – concentrated, ripe wines that combine modern winemaking with the identity of the region. The wine comes from the province of L’Aquila (Terre Aquilane IGT), where higher altitude vineyards give the ‘Merlot’ variety more structure and freshness than in the usually warmer regions. Abruzzo is distinguished by its contrasting climate – the coolness of the mountains and the influence of the sea allow for a balance between ripeness and acidity.
The aroma reveals a spectrum of dark fruits – black cherries, plums, ripe blackberries. It is complemented by subtle notes of violets, tobacco, cocoa and light spices.
The wine is weighty, with a firm but elegant tannin structure. The fruitiness is complemented by soft oak notes – cocoa, coffee, spices. The acidity maintains balance and gives the wine vitality, and the aftertaste is long, with a mineral and slightly smoky nuance.
The Terre Aquilane zone is characterized by higher vineyards and calcareous, clay soils. Such conditions allow the ‘Merlot’ to maintain structure, avoid excessive sweetness and give the wine an elegant, uncluttered profile. The Abruzzo region is characterized by exceptional biodiversity and microclimatic contrasts, which directly affect the complexity of the wine.
The wine is fermented at controlled temperatures and then aged in oak barrels, which provide structure and an additional aromatic layer. The Marina Cvetic line is characterized by longer aging, focused on longevity and concentration.
Serve at a temperature of 16 - 18 °C with lamb dishes, grilled meat or mature cheeses.
