Red dry
Opus One Overture Napa Valley 2022 is a refined wine that clearly reflects the Opus One house style, but is more restrained and somewhat more open in youth than the main farm wine. Overture has been created since 1993 as the second Opus One wine, and since 2021 it has become a specific vintage wine, thus further emphasizing the character of the growing season and farm plots. The 2022 version is made from organically grown farm grapes, and its composition is dominated by ‘Cabernet Sauvignon’ – as much as 94%, with the rest supplemented by ‘Cabernet Franc’, ‘Merlot’, ‘Malbec’ and ‘Petit Verdot’.
In aroma, this wine opens in a lighter, uncluttered direction: notes of cherries and wild berries become prominent, complemented by nuances of rose stems, violets, lightly roasted almonds and anise. This is an aromatically precise, quite transparent and elegant wine.
The taste is dominated by blackberries, blueberries and wild cherries, but the most important thing here is not only the richness of the fruit, but also the lively acidity, which gives the wine energy and keeps it tense. The texture is round, the tannins are softer and smoother than one would expect from such a large proportion of ‘Cabernet Sauvignon’, and the aftertaste reveals light notes of mocha and black tea.
The 2022 season was not an easy one for the farm: after a rainier winter, the late winter months were dry, the spring was changeable weather, and there were severe heat waves during the harvest. However, the farm emphasizes that selective picking and precisely controlled irrigation allowed us to preserve the quality and freshness of the fruit. This is why the wine from this vintage seems lively, precise and maintains good balance.
Winemaking: The contact of the berries with the skins lasted 20 days, and maturation took place in new French oak barrels for 18 months. This combination gives the wine a softly creamy texture, a subtle oak background, and the potential to mature beautifully for many more years.
Serve at 16 - 18 °C with lamb shanks with mint pesto, wagyu beef filet mignon or Stilton Gold cheese.
The first time specific blocks have been used for this wine. Dark forest berry notes on the nose with perfumed elements and notes of milk chocolate. Supple and agile, generous with textured, slightly grainy tannins that are so pleasant - expansive and round in the mouth. It's well built and very approachable with blackcurrant and black cherry flavours on the palate. Concentrated, deep and layered but still with elegance. Extremely characterful. A blend of the 2018 and 2019 vintages with 18 months ageing in French oak barrels. 1% Petit Verdot completes the blend.

Grapes and winemaking
Opus One creates one main wine – Opus One Red Wine – and a secondary wine Overture. Both wines are made using five grape varieties from the classic Bordeaux blend:
• Cabernet Sauvignon
• Cabernet Franc
• Merlot
• Petit Verdot
• Malbec
Production process:
• Manual harvesting and optical sorting of grapes
• Fermentation with gravity systems (no pumps)
• Aging in 100% new French oak barrels for ~19–20 months
• Long bottle aging before release
This meticulous process allows the wine to stand out for its depth, structure, longevity and elegance.
Architecture and wine experience
The Opus One building is an architectural masterpiece that combines modernism and classicism, designed to allow winemaking to proceed naturally from the top to the cellar by gravity.
Opus One is a Napa Green certified winery.
