Red dry
A Northern Rhône-style wine from southern Australia. The estate's vineyards are situated in the Finniss River valley, 120 metres above sea level. The Australian midday heat is balanced by cool afternoon breezes drifting in from the nearby Southern Ocean.
The soil is a mix of gravel, sand, and red and orange clay. Fermentation took place in open vats. The wine was aged for 14 months in 300-litre French oak barrels (10% of them new).
The wine reveals itself through subtle notes of wildflowers, shaped by the Viognier grapes. The mark of Shiraz can be felt in the aromas of plum sauce, dried cranberries, cherries, sweet tobacco, milk chocolate, fragrant pepper, and black cardamom. On the palate, the wine is piquant, with soft tannins and remarkable complexity.
Ageing potential is around 10 years.
Serve at 16–18 °C with kangaroo steak, grilled beef or game stews.
Very charming nose for an Australia syrah with floral, spicy and savory notes. On the quite crisp, medium-bodied palate this is more structured than the nose suggests, with a solid co re of moderately dry tannins. This tastes rather like a modern style St. Joseph from the Northern Rhône. Long savory and mineral finish. A cuvee of 94% syrah and 6% viognier that were co-fermented. Drink or hold. Viena iš Berto Salomono svajonių buvo greta baltųjų vynų, gaminamų šeimos vyninėje „Salomon Undhof“ Austrijos regione Kremstalyje, turėti ir gerą raudonųjų vynų pasirinkimą. Ši svajonė išsipildė tolimojoje Australijoje, kurią Bertas įsimylėjo dar septintajame dešimtmetyje, kuomet vyno importo kompanijoje „Schlumberger“ priklausė direktorių tarybai. Jo dėka į Austriją pirmą kartą buvo importuotas australietiškas vynas. Beje, tuo metu B. Salomonas buvo vienas Austrijos vyno instituto direktorių. Didžiąją svajonę jis įgyvendino 1995-aisiais, įsigijęs vyninę „Salomon Estate“ Finniss River regione, maždaug 50 kilometrų nuo Adelaidės. Įdomiausia tai, kad 1866 metais Johannas Nepomukas Hinteröckeris , Salomono šeimos ainis, emigravo iš Austrijos Vachau regiono į Australiją. Po keturių metų darbo „Seven Hills“ vyninėje (Kler slėnyje) Adelaidės priemiestyje Norwoode jis įsteigė Šv.Ignaco koledžą. Kas galėjo žinoti, kad daugiau nei po šimto metų Salomono palikuonys sugrįš į Australiją ir vėl augins vynuoges.
