Description

Terrazas de Los Andes Cheval des Andes Mendoza 2021 is one of the most striking examples of the dialogue between Argentina and Bordeaux: Cheval des Andes is born from the union of Château Cheval Blanc and the winemaking experience of Mendoza, and its style is based not on a show of strength, but on elegance, freshness and longevity. The 2021 harvest was cooler and wetter than usual in Mendoza, so the wine is characterized by particularly clear aromatic expression, natural freshness and more precise structure. The wine is made from the plots of Las Compuertas (Luján de Cuyo) and Paraje Altamira (Valle de Uco).

The wine opens in layers in aroma: first, spicy and floral tones are felt, then the direction of red and forest berries becomes more pronounced, along with nuances of cedar, tobacco, blackcurrant leaves. This shows the restrained but very complex aromatic profile characteristic of the 2021 harvest.

The wine is precise: silky texture, ripe, fine tannins and lively acidity that gives tension and length. This is a Mendoza red, in which the fruitiness and juiciness of Malbec are combined with the structure and restraint of Cabernet Sauvignon, while a small portion of Petit Verdot adds additional backbone and darker spicy depth.

In terms of terroir, this wine is important because it combines two different Mendoza identities: Las Compuertas provides a more mature, broad layer, while Paraje Altamira brings tension, freshness and more precise structure. The farm itself emphasizes that Cheval des Andes seeks to reveal the Mendoza terroir through a blending logic inspired by Cheval Blanc, where the key is not intensity, but refined balance and the ability to mature for a long time.

The wine is aged: 40% in 225 l Bordeaux barrels, 40% in 400 l barrels and 20% in 2500 l foudre, half of which was new oak.

About brand

Bodega Terrazas de los Andes is a winery located in Argentina, at the foothills of the Andes in the Mendoza region, within the valleys of Luján de Cuyo and Uco Valley. It is a producer of high-quality wines, creating elegant and aromatic red, white, and dessert wines that reflect the character of the region. The grapes are grown in terraced vineyards.

These vineyards are situated at different altitudes, ranging from approximately 980 to 1,650 meters above sea level, ensuring that each variety grows in its optimal climatic zone. The significant temperature differences between day and night encourage slow ripening and the development of expressive aromas.

Terrazas de los Andes emphasizes the authenticity of terroir and a balanced approach to quality. Their vineyards are divided into several micro-terroir plots, whose fruit is used for different wine collections – from the Reserva and Grand ranges to the exclusive Parcel and Extremo editions.

The winery places great importance on sustainability and environmental responsibility, and its commitment to these values has been recognized internationally.

The main grape varieties used in Terrazas de los Andes wines are ‘Malbec’, ‘Cabernet Sauvignon’, and ‘Chardonnay’, as well as ‘Petit Manseng’, with harvests from certain plots also used for the production of dessert wines.

Terrazas de los Andes wines are highly regarded for their complexity, freshness, elegance, and purity of aromas, which clearly express the influence of high-altitude terroir. All of this makes the winery one of the most important and influential symbols of the Argentine wine scene.
