Chilean wine

1–26 of 26

Imagine a winemaker's paradise squeezed between the majestic peaks of the Andes, the rugged Pacific Ocean, and the world's driest Atacama Desert. This unique geographical isolation has made Chile one of the cleanest and healthiest places for vineyards on the entire planet. It is the land where the legendary Carménère grape was preserved and reborn, and where sun-drenched valleys gift us exceptionally expressive, fruity, and elegant wines. From powerful reds to crisp coastal whites, Chilean winemakers invite you to discover New World boldness perfectly balanced with European classics.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Why is Carménère often called the "lost" grape?
Until the late 19th century, this variety was widely grown in France, but it was completely wiped out by the phylloxera epidemic. For a long time, it was believed the variety was gone forever until DNA tests in 1994 showed that the vines grown in massive quantities in Chile and mistaken for Merlot were actually the long-lost Carménère.

What makes Chilean vineyards unique compared to the rest of the world?
Chile is one of the few places in the world never reached by the phylloxera epidemic. Thanks to natural barriers (the Andes, the desert, and the ocean), many Chilean vines grow on their own original, ungrafted roots, which many experts believe provides the wine with exceptional purity.

Are only red wines produced in Chile?
While the country is historically famous for its reds, in recent decades winemakers have discovered the immense potential of the cool coastal areas. Today, Chilean Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay win top awards at international exhibitions.
