Antonin Guyon Pernand Vergelesses 1er Cru Les Vergelesses 2023

Description

This wine is a traditional expression of Pernand-Vergelesses Premier Cru “Pinot Noir”, revealing the character of the northern part of the Côte de Beaune – freshness, aromatic precision, and structure. “Les Vergelesses” is one of the most important Premier Cru climats of this appellation, located near the Corton hill.

The aroma reveals notes of red cherries, raspberries, currants, and wild berries. These are complemented by rose petals, wild herbs, spices, and subtle forest floor tones. In the glass, mineral notes of stone, delicate earthiness, and light oak nuances gradually emerge. The freshness of the red fruit is supported by vibrant acidity, while fine, well-integrated tannins provide firmness to the texture. The flavour profile is dominated by cherries, raspberries, subtle spices, and minerality.

The wine is produced from the 58-are vineyard owned by Domaine Antonin Guyon, where Pinot Noir vines are rooted in clay and limestone soils.

The grapes at Domaine Antonin Guyon are harvested by hand and sorted before fermentation. The wine is produced using traditional Burgundian methods: fermentation takes place in wooden vats with temperature control and cap management (pigeage). The wine is aged in French oak barrels.

Serving recommendations

Serve at 15–16 °C; pairs well with roasted chicken with mushroom sauce, veal cutlet with root vegetables, and aged Saint-Nectaire or Comté cheese.

About brand

One of Burgundy's largest family-owned wine estates, managing approximately 50 hectares of vineyards across the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune. The estate was established in the 1960s, when Antonin Guyon began acquiring vineyard parcels in some of Burgundy's most prestigious appellations. Today, the family's holdings extend from Gevrey-Chambertin and Chambolle-Musigny in the north to Meursault, Volnay, and Corton in the south, allowing the domaine to produce wines that reflect a wide range of Burgundian terroirs, from regional appellations to Grand Cru vineyards.

Particular attention is given to preserving the identity of each vineyard site. Grapes are harvested by hand, carefully sorted, and all wines are vinified and aged at the estate. Red wines are fermented in wooden vats, while white wines are fermented in oak barrels. The ageing regime, including the proportion of new oak, is tailored to the origin and structure of each wine. Since 2018, Domaine Antonin Guyon has been certified organic, reflecting its long-term commitment to environmentally responsible viticulture.

Winemaking Philosophy

The philosophy of Domaine Antonin Guyon is centred on expressing the unique character of each vineyard. Working exclusively with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, the estate produces a portfolio dominated by Premier Cru and Grand Cru wines. Each vineyard parcel is vinified separately, preserving the distinctive identity of its terroir.

Today, the estate's vineyards span some of Burgundy's most renowned villages, including Gevrey-Chambertin, Chambolle-Musigny, Aloxe-Corton, Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet, and Volnay. This geographical diversity enables Domaine Antonin Guyon to showcase the influence of Burgundy's varied soils, topography, and microclimates, offering a comprehensive expression of the Côte d'Or through its wines.
