Château de Javernand Vieilles Vignes Chiroubles AOP 2022

Description

A classic Beaujolais Cru wine, renowned for its delicate, elegant, and highly aromatic style. This wine is made from old ‘Gamay’ vines, over 50 years old, grown at an altitude of around 400 meters above sea level on granite and sandy soils. These conditions impart exceptional freshness, finesse, and minerality to the wine.

In the glass, it reveals aromas of ripe raspberries, cherries, strawberries, and violets, complemented by gentle notes of spice, rose petals, and mineral nuances. The bouquet is refined, floral, and inviting, perfectly representing the high-altitude Chiroubles expression.

On the palate, the wine is light, smooth, and precisely balanced, with a silky texture, soft tannins, and fresh acidity that add structure and longevity. Flavors of red berries, flowers, and subtle spices unfold into a long, pure, and refreshing finish.

Fermentation follows the traditional carbonic maceration method to preserve the vibrant fruit energy and natural suppleness typical of ‘Gamay’. The wine is aged in stainless steel tanks and partly in old oak barrels, maintaining a perfect balance between freshness and structure.

Serving recommendations

Serve at 13–14 °C. Perfect with chicken with mushroom sauce, roasted vegetables, or mild cheeses—classic Beaujolais celebration dishes.

This is a spicy and flavorful Chiroubles with ripe blueberries, mulberries, cloves and nutmeg on the nose. It’s medium-bodied with excellent concentration and ripe, supple tannins. Drink or hold.

About brand

The story of Domaine Château de Javernand began in 1917, when great-grandfather Auguste Faye, visiting the Mâcon region to purchase wine, was captivated by the charm of Château de Javernand and decided to acquire the entire estate – the château, vineyards, and surrounding lands. Since then, this family domain has preserved an unbroken line of tradition, passed down through generations. Today, the fifth generation – Arthur Fourneau and his cousin Mathilde Pénicaud – lead the estate, combining inherited knowledge with a modern approach to sustainable viticulture. Since 2018, part of the vineyard has been certified organic, and the entire philosophy is based on respect for the land, the vine, and the authentic expression of terroir.

Wine Style
The wines of Domaine Château de Javernand embody the bright, delicate, and elegant character of Beaujolais. The family specializes in the Beaujolais Cru Chiroubles appellation, renowned as one of the highest and most “feminine” crus – producing aromatic, floral, and refined expressions of ‘Gamay’.

  • Red wine – subtle, silky, and refined, with notes of ripe red berries, violets, rose petals, and gentle spice. A lively yet elegant style that balances fruitiness with structure.
  • White wine (produced in smaller quantities) is made from ‘Chardonnay’ and offers a fresh mineral edge, clean structure, and delicate hints of stone fruit.

Prestigious Vineyards
The estate’s pride lies in its vineyards within the Chiroubles AOP appellation – gently sloping hillsides located around 400 meters above sea level. This terroir is considered the purest expression of Beaujolais, combining fruitiness, floral charm, and finesse. The granite and sandy soils lend freshness, subtle minerality, and great ageing potential. Domaine Château de Javernand also manages smaller parcels in other parts of Beaujolais, producing both classic Cru wines and more contemporary natural cuvées, such as Indigène, made from naturally fermented ‘Gamay’ grapes.

Ageing and Drinking Window
The winery uses the traditional carbonic maceration method to preserve the natural fruitiness and aromatic softness of ‘Gamay’. The wines are aged in stainless steel tanks and old oak barrels to maintain the perfect balance between freshness and texture. Young wines are vibrant and easy to enjoy upon release, while the best examples, such as Vieilles Vignes Chiroubles, can age gracefully for 5–8 years, developing deeper floral and complex nuances over time.
