Armagnac Darroze Chateau de Lahitte 1988 0.2 L

Description

Sourced from the prestigious Bas-Armagnac region, the 1988 vintage from the Château de Lahitte estate is a magnificent symbol of extraordinary depth and longevity. Aged for nearly four decades in oak barrels, this spirit unfolds with stunning complexity and a profoundly mature, classic taste profile.

The nose is heavily dominated by intense notes of black plums, roasted coffee, leather, and noble old wood, all gracefully enveloped in a distinct, highly sought-after rancio character. On the palate, the texture is viscous and remarkably silky, revealing complex layers of dark chocolate, dried figs, and savory baking spices that culminate in an endlessly long, elegant, and warming finish.

Best enjoyed neat at room temperature (18–20 °C) in a traditional tulip-shaped glass. It is highly recommended to let the spirit breathe for at least 15 minutes before tasting to allow the aromas to fully unfurl. It pairs magnificently with foie gras, high-percentage dark chocolate desserts, it beautifully complements a rich cup of espresso, hard aged cheeses, or stands perfectly on its own for a relaxing, luxurious evening experience.

About brand

Darroze in the world of Armagnac stands for far more than quality — it represents a philosophy. It is a family story spanning more than a century and one of the most authentic expressions of the Gascony region.

The story began at the end of the 19th century, when the Darroze family started working with local winegrowers in Gascony. However, it was in the mid-20th century, thanks to Francis Darroze, that the house took on its present identity. He understood that the true value of Armagnac lies not in volume or blending for consistency, but in specific places, soils, vintages, and the human hand behind them.

Darroze Armagnac is never blended to achieve a uniform taste profile. Each bottle reflects a single estate, a single harvest, and a single story. It is a spirit that evolves, matures, and gains complexity with time. For this reason, Darroze is often compared to great wines rather than industrial spirits.

Most Darroze Armagnacs come from the Bas-Armagnac region, considered the most refined and elegant part of the appellation. The sandy and clay-rich soils give the distillates their signature softness, aromatic depth, and long aging potential. Distillation is carried out using the traditional continuous column still, followed by slow, natural maturation in French oak barrels.

Today, Darroze is regarded as one of the most important guardians of traditional Armagnac. Its creations are highly valued by collectors, sommeliers, and spirits enthusiasts around the world.

This is not a mass-produced spirit — it is a living piece of Gascony’s history in a glass.
