Domaine Parent Pommard 1er Cru Les Chaponnieres 2022

Description

A structured yet elegant Pinot Noir from the Pommard 1er Cru „Les Chaponnières“ vineyard, where some of Domaine Parent’s vines were planted as early as 1929. The 2022 vintage is characterised by concentrated black fruit, freshness and fine-grained tannins, making this Pommard a good choice for those looking for a richer Burgundy that retains an elegant texture and a clear sense of terroir.

The nose reveals notes of black cherries, raspberries and wild berries, complemented by violets, spices, graphite and liquorice. The fruit profile is rich and ripe, balanced by floral and mineral nuances that bring freshness and lift to the aroma.

On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, rich and juicy, with lively acidity and fine, silky tannins. The flavours of black and red fruits are complemented by subtle spice, mineral character and a delicate texture. The finish is long, fresh and structured, while the tannins give the wine further ageing potential in bottle.

„Les Chaponnières“ is a Pommard 1er Cru vineyard located closer to the Volnay side, near the village of Pommard, between „Les Croix Noires“ and „Les Rugiens“. The vines grow in clay-limestone soils, and some of Domaine Parent’s vines in this parcel were planted in 1929. The grapes are hand-harvested, with a portion fermented as whole clusters, and the wine is aged in French oak barrels, around 40% of which are new.

Serving recommendations

Serve at a temperature of 16–17 °C; pairs well with duck breast with cherry sauce, beef entrecôte with mushrooms, and aged hard cheeses.

About brand

“Domaine Parent” is a family-owned estate in the village of Pommard, Côte de Beaune, with a history dating back to the 17th century. The family worked in Volnay for five generations before moving to Pommard in 1803. Today, the estate is run by sisters Anne and Catherine Parent, representing the twelfth generation of the family.

The estate owns around 10 hectares of vineyards in Côte de Beaune, where 'Pinot Noir' and 'Chardonnay' are grown. Pommard wines account for around two-thirds of the estate’s production. In addition to Pommard, “Domaine Parent” produces wines from the appellations of Corton, Ladoix, Beaune and Monthélie, including Premier Cru and Grand Cru wines.

The vineyards are farmed using organic and biodynamic methods. The estate has been certified organic since 2013, while biodynamic principles have been used for almost fifteen years. The vineyards are partly ploughed, while the Premier Cru and Grand Cru parcels are worked with horses. The soils vary depending on the parcel, with predominantly clay-limestone soils, marl and red clay.

The character of “Domaine Parent” is shaped above all by the diversity of the climats in Pommard and across Côte de Beaune, which the estate seeks to express through wines from individual vineyard sites. Pommard holds a particularly important place, with the family interpreting it not only as a powerful and structured wine, but also as one capable of greater precision and subtlety.
