Read moreBeaujolais Nouveau is released just a few weeks after the grape harvest—on the third Thursday of November. This day has become a global celebration of young wine. The wine is produced using a special carbonic maceration method. Fermentation occurs inside whole, uncrushed grapes in an oxygen-free environment, which is why the wine has almost no tannins. In the glass, it surprises with a bright, light purple color and highly expressive aromas of bananas, bubblegum, strawberries, and blackberries.
Due to its unusual lightness, this red wine reveals its flavor best when slightly chilled:
Can Beaujolais Nouveau wine be cellared for a long time?
No. This wine has absolutely no aging potential and is not meant for storage. It is best consumed very fresh—within the first 6 months of its release (by the following summer at the latest).
Why does this wine smell like bananas or bubblegum?
This is a direct result of the carbonic maceration method. Whole grapes ferment inside their own skins in a sealed, carbon dioxide-filled tank, producing very specific, sweet esters reminiscent of bananas, hard candy, or flowers.
Is this wine suitable as a gift?
Yes, it makes a wonderful, casual, and highly symbolic autumn gift, especially if you wish to toast with friends or colleagues during the harvest festival.
