The Gironde Estuary Terroir and Merlot Dominance

The Blaye appellation is located on the shores of the Gironde estuary, directly opposite the famous Médoc peninsula. The river's microclimate and sunny hills create perfect conditions for grapes to ripen. The main star of the region is the Merlot grape, from which the resulting red wine stands out with soft tannins, red and black berry aromas (raspberries, blackberries), and quick maturation, making it particularly appealing to consume young.

A Great Companion at the Dinner Table

Due to their fruitiness and softer tannic structure, Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux wines are perfect on their own or with a variety of dishes. They pair flawlessly with roast pork, poultry, charcuterie boards, and semi-hard cheeses. It also makes an excellent and aesthetically pleasing wine gift for those who love classic French flavors but appreciate a more modern, fruit-forward style.

Dažniausiai užduodami klausimai

Is white wine produced in the Blaye region?
Yes, and it is highly regarded! Unlike many other "Côtes de Bordeaux" zones, Blaye is particularly famous for its white wines. Produced primarily from Sauvignon Blanc, they are intensely aromatic, scented with citrus fruits and exotic notes.

Are wines from this region suitable for cellaring?
Blaye red wines are crafted to be extremely enjoyable in their youth. However, wines from better estates that have been aged in oak barrels can successfully evolve in the cellar for 3 to 7 years, developing spicy and light leathery aromas.

At what temperature should Blaye wines be served?
Serve the red wines at around 16–18 °C. The white Blaye wines should be well-chilled to 8–10 °C to allow their crisp, citrusy freshness to unfold.
