The Tuscan Revolution and Bordeaux Spirit

For a long time, the Sangiovese grape reigned supreme in Tuscany, but the birth of Sassicaia changed everything. This red wine is crafted primarily from Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc grown in unique stony soils (the name "Sassicaia" translates to stony ground). Meticulous grape selection and extended aging in French oak barrels create a beverage of exceptional complexity, intertwining aromas of blackcurrant, cherry, cedar, tobacco, and wild Tuscan herbs.

Pairing This Luxurious Wine

Bolgheri Sassicaia is not only a collector's gem but also an exquisite companion to haute cuisine. It pairs flawlessly with filet mignon, game dishes (such as wild boar ragù), and intensely aged cheeses. Without a doubt, it is the most prestigious wine gift for any connoisseur of classic, robust beverages.

Why does Sassicaia have its own DOC appellation?
This is unprecedented in Italy. Due to its flawless quality and global acclaim, the Italian government decided in 2013 to grant the wine produced by Tenuta San Guido its own exclusive appellation—Bolgheri Sassicaia DOC.

How long can this wine be aged?
It is one of the most age-worthy wines in Italy. The best vintages reach their peak after 10 to 20 years in the cellar, and under exceptional conditions, they can evolve beautifully for several decades.

Is decanting necessary?
Yes, especially if you are opening a bottle younger than 10 years. It is highly recommended to decant it for at least 2 to 3 hours before serving to allow the complex aromatic bouquet to fully open and the tannins to soften.
