Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru is one of only two Grand Cru vineyards in the commune of Morey-Saint-Denis, located in the heart of the Côte de Nuits. The vineyard covers around 15 hectares and extends across Morey-Saint-Denis and a small part of the Chambolle-Musigny appellation. Its name is traditionally associated with the old expression “bonnes mères” – good mothers – while the vineyard itself has long been renowned for its exceptional location and complex geological profile.
Bonnes-Mares produces red wines from 'Pinot Noir'. The vineyard's soils are highly varied, combining different types of limestone and clay that contribute to the complexity of the wines. The northern part is characterised by pale, stony limestone, while the southern section contains more reddish and brown clay mixed with limestone.

A young Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru can be restrained and structured, but with age it reveals increasing aromatic and flavour complexity. The nose often shows dark and red berries, cherries, floral notes, spices, earth and mineral nuances. On the palate, the wine combines concentration with firm yet refined tannins, lively acidity and a long finish. It is a wine in which power is balanced by elegance, while its structure gives it considerable ageing potential.
Bonnes-Mares is one of those Burgundian Grand Cru vineyards whose character is strongly shaped by terroir and the interpretation of the individual producer. Its limited vineyard area and naturally restricted production make these wines rare, while the finest examples can develop considerable complexity and depth with extended bottle ageing.
