Brachetto d’Acqui is often referred to as the red brother of the famous Moscato d'Asti. Thanks to a specific technology of halting fermentation (by rapidly chilling the must), this sparkling wine retains a high amount of natural grape sugar, while the alcohol volume reaches only about 5–6%. Most commonly produced as Frizzante (lightly sparkling), this wine is incredibly light, unburdensome, and full of spring-like freshness, setting it apart from any other red wine in the world.
Pairing wine with chocolate is one of the greatest culinary challenges, but Brachetto d’Acqui creates flawless harmony. It is the perfect Italian wine for dark chocolate desserts, strawberry tarts, fresh berries, tiramisu, or traditional Italian cakes. Furthermore, due to its attractive color and lightness, it makes a wonderful, sweet wine gift for holidays, birthdays, or Valentine's Day.
Is Brachetto d'Acqui always sparkling?
Usually, yes. The most common styles on the market are Frizzante (lightly sparkling) and Spumante (fully sparkling). A still (non-sparkling) version of this wine exists but is extremely rare.
How long can this wine be cellared?
This is a wine best consumed as young as possible. It is recommended to enjoy it within 1 to 2 years of production to fully experience the crisp freshness of its berry and floral aromas. Long-term aging is not suitable for this wine.
What is the best serving temperature?
To balance its natural sweetness and maintain its crispness, Brachetto d’Acqui must be served well-chilled—at around 6–8 °C.
