Read moreThis appellation is located in the inland part of Provence, surrounded by limestone mountain ranges that create a specific microclimate. Unlike the coast, it experiences more significant temperature fluctuations between hot days and cold nights. As a result, the rosé wine from this zone features much brighter, crisper acidity and minerality. The wines intertwine notes of citrus fruits, melons, and subtle Herbes de Provence (garrigue).
These are wines that are perfect not only as an aperitif but also alongside more substantial dishes. A fruity yet dry rosé will beautifully complement roasted vegetables, charcuterie boards, or even light Asian cuisine. The region's white wines (made from the Rolle variety) serve as a perfect wine for fish and cheeses, while the firmer reds are an excellent choice for grilled meats.
How does Coteaux Varois differ from Côtes de Provence?
Coteaux Varois is a more inland, mountainous zone with greater temperature contrasts. Consequently, its wines generally exhibit sharper acidity and more pronounced minerality than the coastal Côtes de Provence wines.
What colors of wine are produced here?
Similar to the rest of Provence, rosé wines completely dominate. However, the small quantities of red (usually based on Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon) and white wines crafted here are also of very high quality.
Does this rosé wine need to be decanted?
No, rosé wines do not require decanting. They are best opened and served immediately, well-chilled (8–10 °C), to preserve their delicate floral and fruity aromas.
