This appellation is known as a space for winemaker innovation and experimentation, so you can find a very diverse range of styles here. The primary selection criterion is the grape variety.
The most popular choice is "Langhe Nebbiolo"—fruity and elegant red wines made from the prestigious grape, intended for earlier consumption. It is also worth looking into dark-berry-filled "Barbera" or "Dolcetto" wines. For white wine lovers, the region offers delicate, floral "Arneis" and complex, locally grown "Chardonnay."
Thanks to their bright acidity, Langhe red wines are phenomenal food partners. "Nebbiolo" pairs beautifully with truffle dishes, beef carpaccio, and mushroom risotto. "Barbera" is a classic companion for pizzas, tomato-based pasta dishes, and cured meat platters.
While both are made from the same grape variety on the same hills, Langhe Nebbiolo is often crafted from younger vines and requires much less barrel aging. As a result, it is fresher, more approachable when young, and offered at a much more attractive price point.
