Luberon is one of the southernmost appellations in France's Rhône Valley (Vallée du Rhône), astonishing with a dual character that intertwines the power of the Rhône and the elegance of Provence. This sunny yet mountainous region offers exceptionally crisp white wines, delicate rosés, and fruity reds. It is the perfect choice for those seeking an approachable wine with an excellent price-to-quality ratio for a cozy evening.
Read moreGeographically, the Luberon AOC stretches across a stunningly beautiful national park situated between the Rhône Valley and Provence. Although the days here are very hot and sunny, the region's vineyards are often located at altitudes of 200–450 meters above sea level. The mountainous terrain and cool nights allow the grapes to retain a very crisp, natural acidity. It is precisely this temperature contrast that gives Luberon wines their signature freshness and aromatic purity, distinguishing them from their heavier southern Rhône neighbors.
This region is highly versatile, meaning winemakers masterfully produce wines in all three colors:
Due to their flexibility and bright fruitiness, Luberon wines are unbeatable companions for Mediterranean cuisine. Confidently serve the white and rosé wines alongside fresh vegetable salads, grilled fish, paella, or soft cheeses. The region's red blends will perfectly complement roasted chicken with herbs, lighter meat stews, and classic charcuterie.
The majority of wines from this region are designed to reveal their best traits (freshness and berry notes) while young. The reds are best consumed within 2–5 years of the harvest, while the whites and rosés should be enjoyed within their first 1–2 years.
Vermentino, when blended into white Luberon wines, not only provides an expressive aroma of lemons and pears but also a light, refreshing saline sensation on the finish, which pairs exceptionally well with seafood.
Chill the white and rosé wines to 8–10 °C (46–50 °F). Because of their lighter structure, it is recommended to serve Luberon red wines slightly cooler—around 15–16 °C (59–61 °F)—especially during the warmer months.
