The Embodiment of Gevrey-Chambertin Power

Mazis-Chambertin is one of the nine Grand Cru vineyards within the Gevrey-Chambertin appellation. Its soil is exceptionally rocky and rich in limestone, which imparts a powerful, almost wild character to the wine. This premium red wine is highly concentrated, stunning the palate with notes of dark cherries, blackcurrants, and earth. It is defined by a very firm tannic structure that can seem quite austere in its youth, but transforms into something incredibly silky over time.

A Companion to Culinary Masterpieces

A wine of this caliber demands mature and intense dishes. Because of its robust structure, Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru is the ultimate wine for meat, pairing spectacularly with game, venison steaks, roast duck, or filet mignon served with truffles or wild mushroom sauces. It will also harmonize beautifully with highly mature, though not overly pungent, cheeses.

How does Mazis-Chambertin compare to Le Chambertin Grand Cru?
Both are remarkably powerful wines; however, Mazis-Chambertin is often described as having a wilder, more spicy character with firmer tannins in its youth, whereas Le Chambertin is generally considered slightly deeper and more harmonious from the start.

What is the aging potential of this Grand Cru?
Mazis-Chambertin is one of the longest-lived wines in Burgundy. It is highly recommended to cellar it for at least 10–15 years, and the best vintages can evolve flawlessly for 20, 30, or more years.

Does this wine require aeration?
Yes. If you decide to open a bottle before it has aged for at least 10 years, decanting for a minimum of 2 hours is essential. This helps soften the rigid tannins and fully unlocks the complex bouquet of berries and forest aromas.
