The Secret of Kimmeridgian Limestone

The Menetou Salon vineyards lie on the exact same unique Kimmeridgian limestone soils as the famous Chablis or Sancerre. This ancient marine fossil-rich ground imparts an incredible, razor-sharp minerality to the local wines. The white wine produced here stands out with aromas of grapefruit, green apples, and spring blossoms, while the red Pinot Noir amazes with cherry notes and a silky, highly subtle texture.

Gastronomic Versatility in French Style

Wines from the Loire Valley are simply built for food pairing. The crisp white Menetou Salon is a classic wine for fish, oysters, and traditional goat milk cheeses (such as Crottin de Chavignol). The red wines from this zone are light-bodied, making them wonderfully suited for roasted poultry, duck breast, or light meat appetizers. It is a delicate French wine that will refresh any lunch or dinner.

How does Menetou Salon differ from Sancerre wines?
Both appellations border each other and use the exact same grape varieties. However, Menetou Salon wines are often slightly more open, with a bit more pronounced fruitiness in their youth, and generally offer a much more attractive price-to-quality ratio than the globally famous Sancerre.

At what temperature should these wines be tasted?
Serve the white Sauvignon Blanc and rosé wines well-chilled, at around 8–10 °C. The red Pinot Noir wines will reveal themselves best at a slightly cooler than room temperature—around 14–15 °C.

Can wines from this appellation be cellared?
The vast majority of Menetou Salon wines (both white and red) are designed to be consumed within their first 2 to 4 years, when their freshness and fruit aromas are at their peak. They are generally not intended for long-term cellaring.
