What makes the Montagny 1er Cru status special?

The village of Montagny in Burgundy is unique because it produces only white wines, and more than two-thirds of its vineyards hold the prestigious Premier Cru status. This means the grapes are grown on the best sun-exposed slopes with limestone and marl soils. This distinct terroir imparts exceptional vibrancy and complexity to the Chardonnay grapes.

What dishes pair well?

Thanks to its crisp acidity and elegant body, this white Burgundy wine is a true gastronomic chameleon. It perfectly enhances and complements the following dishes:

Are Montagny 1er Cru wines aged in oak barrels?

It depends on the winemaker's style. While the region is famous for fresh, stainless steel-fermented wines, many high-end 1er Cru examples are partially aged in French oak barrels. This imparts additional creaminess, buttery notes, and hints of toasted almonds.

How long can this wine be cellared in the bottle?

These wines are delightful to drink young (at 2–4 years of age) when fresh fruit and floral aromas dominate. However, thanks to their solid acid structure, the best wines can confidently be kept in a wine cellar for 5 to 8 years.
