Sparkling dry
Moscato d'Asti is not a standard, fully sparkling sparkling wine. It is classified as frizzante (lightly sparkling), meaning its bubbles are very soft and delicate. During production, natural fermentation in pressurized tanks is halted early by chilling the must. This preserves the grapes' natural sweetness and keeps the alcohol content at a mere 5–5.5%. This is exactly why this classic Italian wine is so easy to drink, unburdensome, and perfect for relaxing.
This sweet wine is a true classic when it comes to food and dessert pairings. It is ideal with fruit desserts, lemon tarts, traditional Italian Panettone, or simply a bowl of fresh strawberries. While traditionally served after a meal, Moscato d'Asti is becoming increasingly popular as a refreshing, sweet afternoon aperitif, or even as a surprising pairing for spicy Asian cuisine, where the sweetness perfectly offsets the heat.
How does Moscato d'Asti differ from Asti Spumante?
Although both wines are produced in the same region from the same grapes, Asti Spumante is fully sparkling (higher bottle pressure) and typically has slightly higher alcohol (around 7–9%). Moscato d'Asti is only lightly sparkling and sweeter.
Can this wine be cellared for many years?
No, Moscato d'Asti is crafted to be enjoyed as fresh as possible. It is best consumed within the first 1 to 2 years after the vintage, while its crisp freshness and floral, fruity aromas are fully intact.
What is the best serving temperature?
To prevent the wine from feeling overly sweet and to maintain its crispness, it must be served well-chilled, at around 6–8 °C. It is ideally served in standard white wine glasses.
