Pineau des Charentes AOC is a unique and luxurious French fortified wine (mistelle) originating from the renowned Cognac region. This sweet, highly aromatic beverage, created by blending fresh grape juice with aged Cognac, is the perfect choice for those seeking an elegant aperitif or a distinctive dessert wine.
Read moreThe production process of this drink is strictly regulated and steeped in local tradition. It is crafted by mixing freshly pressed, unfermented grape must with Cognac eau-de-vie that has been aged for at least one year. By halting the fermentation process, the beverage retains the grapes' natural sweetness, while the Cognac adds structure and longevity. Pineau des Charentes is then aged in oak barrels to develop its complex flavors.
Pineau des Charentes is traditionally served chilled as a festive aperitif. It also pairs beautifully with pâtés (especially foie gras), fresh melon, blue cheeses, and various fruit-based desserts. Presented in a beautiful bottle, it makes a solid and rare gift for any connoisseur.
It is best served well chilled, between 8–10 °C (46–50 °F). For maximum refreshment during the summer, it can also be served over ice.
Thanks to the added alcohol (typically reaching 16–22% ABV) and natural residual sugar, an opened bottle kept in the refrigerator will maintain its best qualities for several weeks, unlike standard unfortified wine.
