Features of the Puglia IGP Region

Often referred to as the "heel of Italy's boot," Apulia features a hot Mediterranean climate tempered by constant sea breezes that cool the vineyards at night. This allows the grapes to reach maximum ripeness while maintaining good health and natural acidity. The IGP classification gives local winemakers the creative freedom to experiment, often resulting in modern blends of traditional indigenous and international varieties that offer outstanding value.

Food Pairing Suggestions

The rich, slightly sweet-fruited red wines of Apulia pair flawlessly with grilled pork, pizza, hearty pasta dishes (especially with meatballs), and aged hard cheeses. Confidently pair the white wines with fresh seafood and crisp vegetable salads. Discover the perfect matches by visiting our cheese section or browsing our selection of classic wine snacks.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Puglia IGP wines sweet?

Most are technically dry or off-dry. However, due to the intense heat, the grapes accumulate significant natural sugars. This gives the wine a viscous texture and a very pronounced perception of fruity sweetness on the palate, even if the actual residual sugar content is relatively low.

At what temperature should these wines be served?

Because of their full body and often higher alcohol content, we recommend serving Apulian red wines slightly cooled, at 16–18 °C (60–64 °F). The white wines should be chilled to 8–10 °C (46–50 °F).
