How to choose Rully AOC wine?

Unlike the famous villages of the Côte d'Or, Rully wines were somewhat overlooked for a long time. Today, however, they represent an incredible leap in quality and value. When selecting a wine from this region, focus on its two primary styles:

• White Wine (Chardonnay): Accounting for more than two-thirds of the production. These are incredibly crisp wines offering aromas of citrus, white blossoms, and flint. Often aged in oak barrels, they develop a gentle creaminess and notes of toasted hazelnuts.
• Red Wine (Pinot Noir): These are light-to-medium-bodied wines featuring vibrant aromas of cherries, raspberries, and redcurrants. Their tannins are exceptionally soft, presenting a graceful and highly approachable structure.

Like many classic French wines, Rully AOC releases are incredibly food-friendly and designed to complement rather than overpower your meal.

How does Rully differ from Côte de Beaune wines?

Rully is located slightly further south, with soils very similar to those of the Côte de Beaune (limestone and clay). While Rully wines might present themselves as slightly lighter and more open in their youth, top-tier Rully Premier Cru wines easily rival those from more famous villages—offering significantly better value for money.

Are Rully wines good for aging?

Basic Village level Rully wines are best enjoyed within their first 3 to 5 years. However, if you are looking for a wine to cellar or a sophisticated gift, seek out a Rully Premier Cru (1er Cru), which can evolve beautifully in the cellar for 5 to 8 years, or even longer.
