The Pride of Terra Alta – Garnacha Blanca

While the region also produces excellent red wines from Garnacha Peluda and Cariñena grapes, the true star of Terra Alta is Garnacha Blanca. It is estimated that about one-third of the world's plantings of this grape are found here. The high altitude and dry, windy climate help the grapes retain fresh acidity, while the intense sun provides a powerful structure. White wines from Terra Alta stand out with a round, creamy texture and aromas of ripe white peaches, melons, almonds, and Mediterranean herbs.

Gastronomic Pairings for Your Table

Because Terra Alta wines possess significant weight and flavor intensity, they require equally substantial food pairings:

Do Terra Alta wines need to be aged for a long time?
White Garnacha Blanca wines are best enjoyed within the first 1 to 3 years when their fruitiness and texture are most expressive. However, higher-tier, oak-aged red wines from this region can successfully evolve in the bottle for 5 to 7 years.

What gives these wines their savory, herbaceous edge?
The unique aromas of wild herbs, rosemary, and pine needles often found in both the white and red wines come from the local flora growing naturally around the vineyards, known locally as garrigue, and the mountain winds.

What serving temperature best reveals the flavors of these wines?
To balance the weight of the white wines, serve them chilled to 10–12 °C (but not too cold). The red wines are best served at a temperature of 16–18 °C.
