The Toscana IGP appellation was born out of rebellion against strict traditional regulations, especially in the Chianti zone. Winemakers wanted to create premium wines without being forced to use only native grapes or adhere to specific aging periods. Today, this appellation guarantees creative freedom: traditional Sangiovese grapes are blended with international varieties, or 100% French-varietal wines are crafted from Tuscany's best vineyards.
The Toscana IGP portfolio is incredibly vast, but its most prominent calling card is the "Super Tuscans." These are extremely powerful, complex red wines, typically aged in French oak barrels. They are based on Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, or Cabernet Franc, often blended with Sangiovese. In the glass, they reveal a deep ruby color and aromas of blackcurrants, cherries, tobacco, vanilla, and leather.
