Bodegas Valdespino Moscatel Toneles Jerez is one of the rarest and most impressive sweet sherries in the world. Made from 100% Moscatel de Alejandría grapes, Moscatel Toneles is a true historical treasure of Bodegas Valdespino. The wine is aged according to the traditional criaderas y solera system in a single huge tonel-type barrel (hence its name), and the average aging age is 80-100 years. Only a very small amount is bottled from this solera each year - about 100 half-bottle (375 ml) bottles.
The aroma is incredibly deep and multi-layered - it reveals dried figs, dates, raisins, black honey, orange peel, liquorice, roasted coffee, dark chocolate, molasses, cinnamon, star anise and oriental spices. The long aging gives delicate notes of leather, tobacco and nuts, which constantly open up in the glass.
The wine is extremely concentrated, velvety and rich, but at the same time it surprises with a lively acidity that perfectly balances the sweetness. In the mouth, notes of caramelized citrus, pear syrup, crème brûlée, coffee beans, dark chocolate and walnuts unfold. The aftertaste is almost endless - elegant, complex and incredibly long.
It is recommended to serve at a temperature of 12–14 °C. It is a meditative wine that is worth enjoying alone, but it also pairs well with dark chocolate, coffee or caramel desserts, blue cheeses, roasted nuts, and foie gras.
