Red dry
Le Poste 2021 is a wine that reflects the craftsmanship of Saint Cosme, the energy of old vines, and the true character of the Gigondas terroir. Subtle yet powerful, it is a wine made for slow enjoyment and graceful ageing.
On the nose, aromas of figs, black pepper, ash, and violets dominate. The bouquet is deep and concentrated, yet at the same time elegant and refined.
On the palate, the wine is clean, rich, and profound, with a firm yet polished structure. The flavor profile is layered and complex, leading to a long, slowly unfolding finish marked by minerality and gentle spice warmth.
Le Poste is one of the most beautiful and expressive vineyards of Château de Saint Cosme. This 1-hectare terraced parcel, planted in 1963, lies at an altitude of 280 meters above sea level. The vineyard grows on limestone soils, and the land is worked by horse, preserving the natural structure of the soil and the authenticity of the terroir.
The wine is fermented using whole clusters, then aged in oak barrels, of which 20% are new. Before bottling, the wine is unfiltered, preserving maximum aromatic purity and textural depth.
Serve at 16-18 °C with red meat stews, white forest mushroom carpaccio, red fish, and spicy vegetable stews with tomatoes.
Château de Saint Cosme is one of the oldest and most respected wineries in the southern Rhône Valley, located in the Gigondas appellation. The estate’s history dates back to the 16th century, and today it is run by Louis Barruol, representing the 14th generation of the family dedicated to preserving and developing this exceptional domaine.
The winery is renowned for its organic and biodynamic viticulture and for its highly precise work in the cellar. The vineyards grow on limestone, clay, and sandy soils, which give the wines structure, mineral tension, and remarkable ageing potential.
The estate’s flagship grape variety is ‘Grenache’, alongside ‘Syrah’, ‘Mourvèdre’, and ‘Cinsault’. Grapes are harvested by hand, fermentation is carried out with native yeasts, and ageing often takes place in old oak barrels or concrete vats to preserve the purity of the terroir and the authenticity of the wine.
Château de Saint Cosme wines are known for:
expressive yet balanced fruit character
elegant structure
pronounced minerality
excellent ageing potential
The estate is widely regarded as a benchmark of Gigondas, respected both in France and internationally as one of the most authentic expressions of the Southern Rhône.
