Description

Red Wine –  ‘Cabernet Sauvignon’ 50%,  ‘Merlot’ 35%,  ‘Cabernet Franc’ 10%,  ‘Petit Verdot’ 5%

An expressive and refined red Bordeaux from the prestigious Margaux AOC Third Growth estate, whose history dates back to the 17th century. This wine perfectly embodies Margaux’s elegance, structure, and the unique character of its terroir.

On the nose, it reveals notes of blackcurrant, cherry, plum, and blackberry, complemented by hints of cedar, sweet spices, cocoa, and tobacco leaf. A delicate floral lift and a subtle smoky undertone add depth and refinement.

On the palate, it is concentrated and beautifully balanced, with a harmony of velvety tannins and fresh acidity. The ripeness of dark fruits blends with spice, minerality, and a touch of vanilla, leading into a long, elegant, and rich finish.

The grapes are hand-harvested from vines over 35 years old, rooted in gravel and clay-limestone soils. Fermentation takes place in cement and stainless-steel vats under temperature control, followed by 14–16 months of maturation in French oak barrels (80–100% new, depending on the vintage).

Serving recommendations

Serve at 16–18 °C, pairs beautifully with roast lamb loin with rosemary and garlic, duck breast with cherry–red wine sauce, or aged hard cheeses such as Comté or Manchego.

About brand

Château Malescot Saint-Exupéry is a classic wine estate in the Margaux appellation of the Bordeaux region, classified in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification as a Troisième Grand Cru Classé – one of the traditionally recognized top-tier positions within the Margaux appellation.

Its history dates back to the 17th century, when the property was owned by the Escoussés family, and in 1697 it passed into the hands of Simon Malescot, who developed the vineyards and gave the estate its original name. In the 19th century, Jean-Baptiste de Saint-Exupéry acquired the property and added his surname to the estate name. After several changes of ownership, the Zuger family purchased the estate in the mid-20th century, extensively renovating the vineyards and building new winemaking facilities, thereby reviving the reputation of Malescot Saint-Exupéry.

The vineyards cover around 23–28 hectares and are planted with classic Bordeaux varieties: ‘Cabernet Sauvignon’, ‘Merlot’, ‘Cabernet Franc’, and ‘Petit Verdot’, which form the main blend of the wines. Thanks to the combination of Margaux gravel, limestone, and clay soils, the terroir gives the estate’s wines structure, aromatic complexity, and ageing potential.

In winemaking, fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled tanks, followed by ageing for approximately 12–16 months in French oak barrels, often with a significant proportion of new oak, in order to provide additional depth and structure.

Château Malescot Saint-Exupéry wines are typically characterized by deep notes of dark fruits, spices, and subtle oak nuances, along with balanced tannins that allow them to age for a long time. The style of the estate emphasizes the elegance and refined texture of Margaux, making the wines highly valued by both critics and collectors.
