Description

An exceptional single domaine Armagnac, aged for more than four decades and crafted by the renowned Darroze family, who for over 70 years have shaped the Bas-Armagnac region’s reputation as one of the world’s most prestigious sources of fine brandies. This release — the Domaine de la Poste distillate — was distilled in 1987 and matured in oak casks for over 35 years, achieving a remarkable balance between depth of maturity, fruit intensity, and refined spiciness.

The Domaine de la Poste estate lies in the heart of Bas-Armagnac, a region defined by its famous “sables fauves” soils — sandy and rich in iron oxides. This terroir imparts lightness, elegance, and subtle minerality, while the region’s mild climate helps preserve the spirit’s natural fruitiness and longevity.

On the nose, it opens with dried fruits, figs, prunes, and candied orange peel, complemented by notes of vanilla, caramel, cedar, tobacco, and a gentle wisp of smoke. Hints of honey, spice, and chocolate emerge in the background, adding depth while maintaining a lively, fruity freshness.

On the palate, it is rich, rounded, and expressive, revealing layers of honey, caramel, dried fruits, chocolate, vanilla, and oak spice. The texture is silky and slightly oily, while the finish is long, warm, and elegant, marked by tobacco, soft smoke, and honeyed tones. The long aging has created a perfect balance between sweetness and tannins, giving the spirit both harmony and depth.

A mature, classic Bas-Armagnac, in which the Darroze family’s precision meets the refined elegance of the Domaine de la Poste terroir. Domaine de la Poste 1987 is a balanced, refined, and deeply expressive Armagnac, ideal for quiet contemplation or as a prized collector’s piece. Every sip embodies the union of time and craftsmanship, shaped over more than 35 years of patience and mastery.

About brand

Darroze in the world of Armagnac stands for far more than quality — it represents a philosophy. It is a family story spanning more than a century and one of the most authentic expressions of the Gascony region.

The story began at the end of the 19th century, when the Darroze family started working with local winegrowers in Gascony. However, it was in the mid-20th century, thanks to Francis Darroze, that the house took on its present identity. He understood that the true value of Armagnac lies not in volume or blending for consistency, but in specific places, soils, vintages, and the human hand behind them.

Darroze Armagnac is never blended to achieve a uniform taste profile. Each bottle reflects a single estate, a single harvest, and a single story. It is a spirit that evolves, matures, and gains complexity with time. For this reason, Darroze is often compared to great wines rather than industrial spirits.

Most Darroze Armagnacs come from the Bas-Armagnac region, considered the most refined and elegant part of the appellation. The sandy and clay-rich soils give the distillates their signature softness, aromatic depth, and long aging potential. Distillation is carried out using the traditional continuous column still, followed by slow, natural maturation in French oak barrels.

Today, Darroze is regarded as one of the most important guardians of traditional Armagnac. Its creations are highly valued by collectors, sommeliers, and spirits enthusiasts around the world.

This is not a mass-produced spirit — it is a living piece of Gascony’s history in a glass.
