Orange dry

Domaine Ampelhus Quartzite Blanc BIO 2024

32,00 €

Description

An aromatic dry orange wine from the Languedoc region of southern France, made from 100% ‘Muscat à petits grains’ grapes.

The nose reveals floral aromas, tropical fruit notes of pineapple and mango, and citrus zest. The palate is intense, fruity and fresh, with the aromatic character typical of ‘Muscat’, subtle herbal and almond nuances, and an enveloping texture.

The vineyards are located around Lunel-Viel in the Hérault department. The soils are characterised by rounded pebbles embedded in red clay rich in iron oxides. Siliceous soils are associated with freshness and finesse in the wines. The grapes are hand-harvested and fermented as whole bunches, with extended maceration, before the wine is aged in stainless steel tanks. The estate follows organic viticulture principles, with winemaking focused on preserving the grape variety’s distinctive character and expressing the qualities of the site.

Serving recommendations

Serve: 8–10 °C; pairs well with seafood salads, ceviche, as well as classic Provençal tapenade or fresh mozzarella and tomato appetizers.

About brand

Domaine Ampelhus is a 12-hectare winery located in the Languedoc region of France. The estate is managed by former Lithuanian pharmacist Ženia Vasiljeva Vermillard and her husband Thibauld Vermillard, who took over the family vineyards in 2015. The producers apply biodynamic winemaking principles and have won the prestigious "Best Young Winemaker of France" award. The assortment is dominated by wines made from traditional and rare historical grape varieties.

Vineyard Characteristics

The vineyards of Domaine Ampelhus are distinguished by specific natural conditions and history:

  • Soil: Dominated by round stones (galets roulés) formed by the Rhône River 400,000 years ago. These stones accumulate the sun's heat and transfer it to the vines.
  • Vine Age: The harvest is gathered from 40 to 70-year-old vines planted by Thibauld's grandfather.
  • Grape Varieties: Alongside classic 'Muscat' or 'Grenache', the estate has revived and cultivates rare historical varieties – 'Piquepoul Noir', 'Terret Noir', and 'Rivairenc'.

Wine Style

The estate's production is focused on naturalness and revealing the true characteristics of the region:

  • White Wine: Stands out for its minerality, full texture, and pure aroma.
  • Red Wine: Features notes of red berries, freshness, and soft tannins.

Due to their well-balanced acidity, the wines can be enjoyed young, but the red wines possess a well-defined structure that allows them to continue maturing gracefully in the bottle.
