Domaine Parent Pommard La Croix Blanche 2023

Description

„La Croix Blanche“ is a Pommard AOC made separately by Domaine Parent from a small lieu-dit located directly opposite the renowned „Grands Épenots“ vineyard. The wine stands out for combining the structure characteristic of Pommard with pronounced fruitiness and freshness. The 2023 vintage shows ripe fruit, a softer texture and good balance, making it a more approachable Pommard that does not require extended cellaring.

The nose reveals notes of wild cherries, redcurrants and black berries, complemented by violets, spices and subtle earthy nuances. The fruit profile is vivid and ripe while remaining fresh, with a gentle oak character adding further complexity.

On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, juicy and fresh, with lively acidity and soft, fine-grained tannins. The flavours of red and black fruits are complemented by subtle spice, minerality and delicate earthy notes. The finish is medium in length, dry and fruity, maintaining a good balance between acidity and tannins.

„La Croix Blanche“ is a 2.29-hectare Pommard lieu-dit located opposite „Grands Épenots“. The soils are predominantly clay and marl, with deposits of dolomitic limestone. The grapes are hand-harvested; depending on the vintage, a portion is fermented as whole clusters, and the wine is aged in French oak barrels.

Serving recommendations

Serve at a temperature of 14–16 °C; it pairs perfectly with duck confit, beef stew with red wine, and sautéed wild mushrooms with thyme.

About brand

“Domaine Parent” is a family-owned estate in the village of Pommard, Côte de Beaune, with a history dating back to the 17th century. The family worked in Volnay for five generations before moving to Pommard in 1803. Today, the estate is run by sisters Anne and Catherine Parent, representing the twelfth generation of the family.

The estate owns around 10 hectares of vineyards in Côte de Beaune, where 'Pinot Noir' and 'Chardonnay' are grown. Pommard wines account for around two-thirds of the estate’s production. In addition to Pommard, “Domaine Parent” produces wines from the appellations of Corton, Ladoix, Beaune and Monthélie, including Premier Cru and Grand Cru wines.

The vineyards are farmed using organic and biodynamic methods. The estate has been certified organic since 2013, while biodynamic principles have been used for almost fifteen years. The vineyards are partly ploughed, while the Premier Cru and Grand Cru parcels are worked with horses. The soils vary depending on the parcel, with predominantly clay-limestone soils, marl and red clay.

The character of “Domaine Parent” is shaped above all by the diversity of the climats in Pommard and across Côte de Beaune, which the estate seeks to express through wines from individual vineyard sites. Pommard holds a particularly important place, with the family interpreting it not only as a powerful and structured wine, but also as one capable of greater precision and subtlety.
