Red dry
A red Burgundy wine from one of the Premier Cru vineyards of Gevrey-Chambertin. Made from 100% ‘Pinot Noir’ grapes, it combines ripe berry fruit, floral aromas, firm structure and excellent ageing potential.
The nose reveals notes of raspberry and wild strawberry, complemented by rose, clove and subtle oak nuances. Medium-bodied, lively and harmonious on the palate, it has a silky texture, concentrated fruit character and firm yet elegant tannins. The long finish retains fruity, floral and mineral notes.
The “Les Champeaux” vineyard covers approximately 0.81 hectares, with vines around 50 years old growing in soils of silt, clay and sand. The grapes are hand-harvested. Fermentation begins after a period of cold maceration and uses indigenous yeasts. Extraction is carried out gently to develop tannin structure while preserving aromatic precision.
The wine is aged for 12 months in oak barrels, 30% of which are new. The 2023 vintage offers an excellent balance of fruit and acidity, with a structure that allows it to develop in the bottle. This Premier Cru Burgundy can be enjoyed young, but should gain additional complexity with a few more years of ageing.
Serve at a temperature of 15–16 °C; pair with duck breast, slow-braised beef, or venison steak.
Domaine Tortochot is a family-owned winery in Burgundy with a history dating back to the 19th century. The estate is located in the village of Gevrey-Chambertin, in the Côte de Nuits, an area renowned for its structured, complex and age-worthy ‘Pinot Noir’ wines. Today, the winery is run by Chantal Michel Tortochot, a fourth-generation winemaker who continues the family tradition and places great emphasis on expressing the individual character of each vineyard parcel.
Gabriel Tortochot holds an important place in the family’s history. He actively contributed to defending the interests of Burgundy’s grape growers and promoting the region’s principles of wine origin and quality. Today, the estate’s portfolio includes regional and village-level wines, as well as Premier Cru and Grand Cru cuvées that express the character of Burgundy’s distinct climats – individual vineyard sites with their own specific characteristics.
Since 2008, the vineyards have been managed according to organic viticulture principles. The soil is cultivated mechanically, cover cropping is practised, and alternative methods are used instead of chemical herbicides. These practices help preserve soil vitality and the vineyard ecosystem.
The grapes are hand-harvested and carefully selected. Fermentation takes place using indigenous yeasts, while extraction is carefully controlled to preserve the fruit expression and achieve the desired structure. The wines are aged in French oak barrels, with the proportion of new oak adjusted according to the wine’s classification and individual cuvée. Ageing generally lasts 15–18 months. The estate avoids fining and filtration in order to preserve the wines’ character.
Domaine Tortochot’s wines focus on the expression of ‘Pinot Noir’, lively acidity, tannic structure and the distinctive character of each vineyard site. Rather than seeking to standardise each vintage, the estate aims to convey the conditions of each location and growing season, combining the power of Gevrey-Chambertin with elegance and the nuances of terroir.
