Masciarelli Marina Cvetic Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Riserva 2021 is one of the most striking interpretations of the Abruzzo region’s “Montepulciano”, reflecting the direction of modern Italian winemaking and the precision of the Masciarelli house. It is a concentrated and structured “Riserva” category wine from Abruzzo. The “Marina Cvetic” line is considered part of the higher-end Masciarelli portfolio, designed to express the character and maturity potential of the best plots.
The aroma is intense and multi-layered – ripe raspberries, blackberries, black plums are revealed, complemented by nuances of violets, dried flowers and spices. Subtle black pepper, earth tones, vanilla and dark chocolate are felt, giving the aroma a sense of depth and maturity.
The wine is weighty, dense and juicy, with a pronounced concentration of dark berries. The structure is based on ripe but firm tannins that give the wine its backbone and longevity. The texture is velvety, with a soft creaminess, and the aftertaste reveals notes of dark chocolate, spices and fruit that linger for a long time.
The grapes are grown in the Abruzzo hills, where the influence of the Apennine Mountains and the Adriatic Sea creates wide temperature fluctuations. This allows for the preservation of acidity and aromatic precision, while the calcareous clay soils provide structure and concentration.
The wine is fermented in stainless steel tanks and then aged in French oak barrels for about 12-18 months. This adds additional complexity, a subtle layer of toast and spice, and rounds out the tannins.
