Michel Gros Echezeaux Grand Cru Les Loachausses 2023

320,00

Description

One of the most respected Grand Crus of Vosne-Romanée, the Les Loachausses parcel is known for a more elegant, floral, and refined expression. Michel Gros produces an extremely limited quantity of wine from this site, combining subtle concentration, aromatic precision, and the silken structure characteristic of the Côte de Nuits.

The nose opens with notes of raspberries, cherries, ripe strawberries, and pomegranate. These are joined by violets, forest-floor nuances, gentle touches of sweet spices, and delicately integrated oak. Additional complexity comes from hints of black tea and soft nutmeg.

The palate is both elegant and concentrated: supple, silky tannins, medium acidity, and precise balance. The texture is broad yet graceful, revealing a clear interplay between fruit purity and mineral tension. The finish is long, marked by floral tones, red fruit, subtle spices, and a lingering mineral energy.

The Les Loachausses parcel lies in the northeastern section of Echezeaux, where limestone-clay soils dominate. This area gives the wine more finesse than the central parts of Echezeaux: less power, more elegance, heightened aromatic clarity, and a distinctly floral character — one of the most poetic expressions within Echezeaux.

The grapes are carefully sorted, then fermented at controlled temperatures using natural yeasts. Ageing takes place in French oak barrels (a portion new) for 14–18 months, focusing on purity and sensitivity to the Grand Cru character.

Serving recommendations

Serve at 15–16 °C. Pairs well with milder poultry dishes, truffle risotto, veal loin, or delicately prepared duck confit.

About brand

The roots of Domaine Michel Gros, located in Vosne-Romanée, trace back to 1830 when the first member of the Gros family settled here and established their estate in the very heart of the Côte de Nuits. Subsequent generations continued to expand the estate's holdings with dedication, which today encompass 23 hectares. The estate's distinctive pride is the Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru "Clos des Réas," which the Gros family has owned as a monopole since its acquisition in 1860. Today, Pierre Gros, the seventh generation of this winemaking dynasty, supported by his father Michel, continues and develops the work begun by their ancestors. Passionate yet rigorous, Pierre constantly oversees the creation of his wines, meticulously controlling all stages of production – from vine cultivation to bottling.

Wine Style

Domaine Michel Gros wines are characterized by elegance, subtlety, and a superb reflection of the Vosne-Romanée and other prestigious Burgundy terroirs. Great emphasis is placed on the unique character of the ‘Pinot Noir’ variety and the elegance of ‘Chardonnay’.

  • Red Wine is aromatic, with smooth yet firm tannins, an elegant structure, and vibrant notes of red and dark berries, spices, and earth. The wines exhibit excellent balance and a long, complex finish.
  • White Wine (predominantly ‘Chardonnay’) from Domaine Michel Gros displays elegance and minerality typical of the Hautes-Côtes de Nuits region. Aromas include white flowers, citrus fruits, and subtle hazelnut notes. The wine is fresh, well-balanced, and pairs beautifully with various dishes.

Prestigious Vineyards

Domaine Michel Gros possesses exceptional vineyards in prestigious locations within the Côte de Nuits and Hautes-Côtes de Nuits.

  • Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru "Clos des Réas" is a monopole vineyard of the estate, renowned for its exceptional quality and elegance. The wines from this vineyard are considered among the finest in Vosne-Romanée.
  • Other important red vineyard holdings of the estate are located in the Hautes-Côtes de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny, and Nuits-Saint-Georges appellations, each contributing to the diversity and complexity of the wines.
  • Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Nuits Blanc Fontaine Saint Martin is one of the estate's white vineyards, where ‘Chardonnay’ is cultivated. This vineyard is known for its unique terroir, which imparts minerality and complexity to the wine.

Great attention is paid to vineyard care throughout the year, employing sustainable viticulture methods to ensure optimal ripening of the ‘Pinot Noir’ and ‘Chardonnay’ grapes and the highest quality of wine.

Aging and Drinking Period

Domaine Michel Gros wines exhibit excellent balance and elegance, allowing them to be enjoyed both young and mature. The Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru "Clos des Réas" and other high-end red wines possess great potential for long aging, during which their complexity, subtle tannins, and elegant aromas unfold. The white wines are often fresh and enjoyable in their youth, although some higher-end ‘Chardonnay’ can also gain further complexity with bottle aging.
