Crusted portas yra gaminamas iš kelių Vintažiniam portui skirtų vynuogių derlių– įprastai dviejų ar trijų skirtingų metų. Šio vyno gamybos metu nebuvo vykdoma jokia filtracija, todėl jį patariama dekantuoti. Būtent nuosėdos ir duoda šiam portui jo pavadinimą: „Crusted“ iš anglų kalbos tiesiogiai ko gero būtų verčiamas kaip pluteliuotas– visai kaip šokoladu aplietų ledų išorinis sluoksnis (pluta) neretai suskyla į daug plutelių. Bet lengviausia pavadinimo kilmę suprasti iš šio gėrimo gaminimo būdo– jau minėtas vintažinis portas, bręsdamas ąžuolo statinėse, bačkų dugną padengia sluoksniu, pluta,- būtent ši pluta ir patenka į butelį. Lietuvoje viešėjęs Niepoort vyninės atstovas didelį laiką skyrė bandydamas sugriauti stereotipą, jog šiam vynui naudojama būtent „blogesnioji dalis“ vintažinių portų dalis.
Vynuogės šiam portui yra auginamos yra Vinha de Pisca, Vale de Pinhao ir Ferrao vynuogynuose Po 4 metų brandinimo ąžuolo statinėse ir 3 metų butelyje šis portas parduotuvių lentynas pasiekia jau tinkamas mėgautis. Toks jis ir yra: prienamas jaunystėje, tačiau turi kelių papildomų dešimtmečių brandinimo potencialą.
Tamsiai raudonos gilios spalvos vynas kvepia vyšniomis, tamsiomis prinokusiomis slyvomis, papildytomis mėtos ir anyžių natomis. Burnoje vynas švelnus, stebinantis integruotais šilkiniais taninais, kurie puikiai papildo juodųjų uogų uogienės ir džiovintų vaisių motyvus.
