Peter Michael "Au Paradis" Napa Valley 2021 is a highly concentrated, luxurious, and elegant Cabernet Sauvignon-based wine from the Oakville AVA, one of Napa Valley’s most prestigious zones. "Au Paradis" translates to "in paradise," and the grapes are grown in the Peter Michael family’s 11-hectare vineyard on the eastern slopes of Oakville, at an elevation of approximately 150–180 meters.
The 2021 wines are characterized by great concentration, yet they also possess elegance and freshness. The aroma reveals blackcurrant, cherry, black plum, and raspberry, complemented by notes of dried rose petals, lilac, and violet. Deeper nuances of dark chocolate, leather, herbs, sage, graphite, and spices emerge as well.
The wine is rich and concentrated, yet not heavy. Very fine, silky tannins provide structure, while ample acidity keeps the wine lively and precise. The long finish lingers with notes of dark fruit, herbs, minerals, and a subtle savory quality. The producer describes this vintage as possessing harmony, depth, and "powerful elegance."
The 2021 vintage was harvested between September 9 and 30. The wine was aged for 18 months in 100% French oak barrels and bottled in 2023. May 11 (unfiltered), and officially released in September 2024.
Serve at 16–18°C with cured meats, hard cheeses, game, and beef dishes.
A rich and flavorful red with lots of blackberries, dark chocolate, iodine, orange peel, lemon zest, green tobacco and pine needles, Medium-bodied. Tannins are open and then turn fine and polished. Lovely length and consistency. 88% cabernet sauvignon, 9% cabernet franc and 3% merlot. Drink after 2028.
