Description

Planeta Cerasuolo di Vittoria BIO 2024 is the only Sicilian DOCG red wine, which combines two grape varieties that shape the island’s identity – ‘Nero d’Avola’ and ‘Frappato’. The name Planeta “Cerasuolo” comes from the Sicilian word cerasa – cherry, so from the first aromas this wine reveals itself with a bright red berry character and southern vitality. The wine is born in the Dorilli area, between the sea and the Iblei hills, where red sandy soils and the warm Mediterranean climate give it expressiveness, but at the same time allows it to maintain elegance and freshness.

The aroma is dominated by notes of cherries, Marsala strawberries, pomegranates and mulberries, complemented by subtle nuances of oriental spices – sandalwood, coriander, Sichuan pepper.

The wine is medium-weight, soft in texture, but at the same time fresh and energetic. ‘Nero d’Avola’ provides structure and darker berry fruitiness, while ‘Frappato’ provides lightness, aromatic notes and juicy acidity. The aftertaste is characterized by cherries, black pepper, hints of sweet spices and a subtle minerality. The tannins are soft.

The soils of the Dorilli area are characterized by loose red sand and layers of tuffaceous limestone, which regulate the moisture balance and help maintain the stability of the vines in the hot Sicilian climate. This area belongs to the Vittoria zone, a historic region of southeastern Sicily, famous for its more elegant red wines.

The wine is a product of organic farming, fermented in stainless steel tanks in order to preserve the purest fruitiness and terroir character.

Serving recommendations

Serve at a temperature of 14-16 °C with tuna, mushroom dishes, or traditional Italian dishes (e.g. pizza with cured ham).
