Description

Planeta Controdanza Rosso BIO 2021 - The “Controdanza” is a traditional village dance in which the dancers move elegantly in a way of opposition and agreement. We thought of this when combining Nero d’Avola and a small amount of Merlot grown in the white lands of Noto. This is not a typical blend, everything is based on contrast, not similarity. It was created as a classic “second wine” from vines that do not reach the achievements of the Santa Cecilia wines, although they grow in the valleys surrounding the Buonivini winery. These are the lowest areas of the valleys, where the fruit acquires the typical balsamic character of Nero d'Avola in the calcareous soils of Noto."

The aromatic profile shows a direction of ripe plums and darker fruits, accompanied by balsamic notes, bay leaves, hints of incense and tones of Mediterranean vegetation.

The wine is medium-bodied with a clearly perceptible ripeness, but maintains balance thanks to fresh acidity and smooth tannins.
The grapes are hand-harvested at the end of September. After being brought to the cellar, they are separated from the stalks, gently pressed and fermented in stainless steel tanks for 7-8 days, with short pump-overs to keep the skins intact. After fermentation, the wine is kept on the skins for another 15-18 days, then malolactic fermentation takes place, and aging lasts 12 months in used Allier oak barrels.

Serving recommendations

Serve at a temperature of 16 - 18 °C, with expressive pork dishes and fish with a strong flavor.

About brand

"Aziende Agricole Planeta s.s." is a family-owned Sicilian winery that has become a key driver of the island's wine culture. Their activity includes not only wine production, but also the transformation of the island's viticultural landscape, combining old traditions with an innovative approach. Planeta's journey began with a deep respect for Sicily's diverse terroirs, which led them to establish vineyards in different parts of the island: from the sun-drenched plains of Menfi to the volcanic slopes of Mount Etna and the historic region of Noto. This geographical diversity has allowed them to start growing both local and international grape varieties, creating a wide and deep assortment of Sicilian wines.

By prioritizing sustainable practices, their dedication allows them to create wines of exceptional character and complexity that have won international acclaim.

Planeta has made a significant impact on Sicily not only by producing excellent wines. They have played an important role in revitalizing the island's wine industry, encouraging other producers to strive for higher quality and innovation. Their investments in viticulture and enotourism have significantly contributed to the region's economic growth and cultural identity. Looking to the future, Planeta continues to explore new areas of winemaking, while remaining true to its roots. They aim to further enhance sustainability, popularize local varieties, and showcase the unique potential of Sicilian wine to the world.

Prestigious Vineyards

The Planeta winery owns prestigious vineyards located in different Sicilian terroirs:

  • Menfi: This region is characterized by sunny plains and diverse soil, allowing for the cultivation of various grape varieties.
  • Noto: This historic region is famous for its limestone soil, which gives the wines a distinctive minerality.
  • Etna: This volcanic region is characterized by unique soil and climate, which give the wines a strong structure and intense aromas.

These prestigious vineyards are complemented by other plots where local grape varieties are grown.

Aging and Consumption Period

Planeta wines are made to preserve natural fruitiness and freshness. Most wines are drunk young, but some red wines have the potential to age for several years. The wines are aged in both oak barrels and stainless steel tanks, depending on the wine style.
