"Azienda Agricola Elvio Cogno" is one of the most important and highly respected wine estates in the Piedmont (Piemonte) region of Italy. The family estate is famous for reviving the historic glory of the village of Novello and the Ravera vineyard. Discover classic, elegant, and highly age-worthy red wines that surprise with their harmony of tradition and pure fruitiness.
Read moreThe estate follows traditional Piedmont winemaking principles. Fermentation occurs naturally, and the beverages are aged in large, old Slavonian oak casks (botti grandi), which do not impart a vanilla finish but allow the pure character of the grapes to unfold. The Barolo they create (from Nebbiolo grapes) is powerful, with firm tannins, featuring aromas of roses, tar, cherries, and earth.
In addition to world-class Barolo, the producer crafts exceptionally juicy Barbera d'Alba wines, which, due to their crisp acidity, are perfect for the everyday table. The estate is also known for saving the rare, native white grape Nascetta from extinction, producing a mineral-driven and age-worthy white wine.
Classic Piedmont wine is inseparable from gastronomy. A robust Barolo will perfectly complement slow-braised beef, lamb chops, and risotto with wild mushrooms and truffles. The lighter Barbera pairs wonderfully with pizza, pasta dishes, and cured meats found in our wine snacks selection.
Is it necessary to decant Barolo wine?
Yes, it is one of the most tannic wines. It is recommended to decant a young Barolo for at least 2–3 hours before drinking to allow it to open up.
