The History of Chateau La Garricq: Decline and Revival

The history of this estate is closely tied to the neighboring Chateau Paloumey properties. Back in the 19th century, under the management of winemaker Octave Dupuy, the local vineyards experienced a golden era, renowned for their excellent quality. Unfortunately, the phylloxera epidemic that later swept through Europe did not spare these lands—most of the vines perished, and the estate fell into a long period of decline.

The true revival of Chateau La Garricq began in 1989 when the historic site was purchased by Martine Cazeneuve. She embarked on an active and ambitious restoration process, aiming to replant and restore the vineyards to their original, authentic form. Her dedication has become a remarkable success story, bringing top-tier winemaking standards back to the estate.

Winemaking Philosophy and Style

Today, the producer stands out for its profound respect for nature and the terroir. The vines are cultivated to ensure that the harvest genuinely reflects the region's natural characteristics. By applying modern technologies during fermentation while maintaining a strong connection to traditional methods, the estate creates wines that develop increasing complexity over time.

Food Pairings

A structured, classic French style demands an equally impressive culinary companion. This wine pairs beautifully with roasted red meats, rich game stews, or a curated board of hard cheeses. Elevate your tasting experience by exploring our selection of wine snacks.
