Chateau Larrivet

1–1 of 1

“Château Larrivet Haut-Brion” is a winery in the Pessac-Léognan appellation, where the traditions of Bordeaux winemaking meet a willingness to experiment. The estate has been managed by the Gervoson family for more than 30 years, during which time they have restored and developed the property. Since 2015, the winery’s team has received consultancy from winemaking expert Stéphane Derenoncourt, who helps refine practices both in the vineyards and in the cellar.

The winery stands out for its attention to the individual characteristics of different vineyard sites. Here, terroir is understood not as an abstract concept, but as the combination of natural conditions that shapes a wine’s aromas, texture and structure. The aim is to produce expressive, graceful and harmonious wines in which fruit character, tannins and acidity complement one another rather than compete, coming together as a coherent whole.

At the same time, “Château Larrivet Haut-Brion” is open to exploring new ways of expressing this character. Traditional oak barrels are used alongside large, decorated egg-shaped concrete vessels and terracotta amphorae. These different vessels allow the team to experiment with texture and ageing while maintaining respect for classical winemaking traditions. The estate’s creative spirit is also reflected in its “Vintage Garden”, a garden where the character of each vintage is interpreted through plants, landscape and the senses.

The estate produces both red and white wines. Its red vineyards are planted with ‘Merlot’, ‘Cabernet Sauvignon’ and ‘Cabernet Franc’, while ‘Sauvignon Blanc’ and ‘Sémillon’ form the foundation of its white wines. The vineyards encompass a variety of sites, allowing the estate to produce wines with distinct characters while retaining the distinctive qualities of the Pessac-Léognan region.
