Domaine de La Pousse d’Or is a historic Burgundy estate based in the village of Volnay, in the Côte de Beaune region. Focusing primarily on the Pinot Noir variety, the estate owns some of the most important terroirs in Volnay, Pommard, Puligny-Montrachet, Chambolle-Musigny, Morey-Saint-Denis, Corton and Santenay. The domaine is renowned for its extensive collection of Premier Cru and Grand Cru vineyards, including several historic monopole plots.
The history of La Pousse d’Or dates back to the 16th century, while the viticultural heritage of Volnay is rooted in even older Burgundy winemaking traditions. Since the Middle Ages, Volnay has been recognised for producing elegant and refined Pinot Noir wines.
The modern chapter of the estate began in the second half of the 20th century. From 1997, the domaine was managed by Patrick Landanger, who invested significantly in vineyard management, cellar facilities and winemaking precision. Since 2018, the estate has been led by his son, Benoît Landanger.
Today, La Pousse d’Or follows biodynamic viticulture principles. The focus is placed on soil vitality, natural vine balance and the most precise expression of each individual climat. Vineyard practices limit the use of chemical inputs, while winemaking aims to preserve the natural balance between structure, aromatics and the character of each site.
The identity of La Pousse d’Or is based on terroir precision and classic Burgundian elegance. The red wines are made from Pinot Noir and are characterised by refined structure, silky texture, vibrant acidity and excellent ageing potential.
Read moreVolnay wines typically display aromas of red cherries, raspberries, flowers, spices and subtle earthy notes. The Premier Cru and monopole vineyards bring additional concentration, structure and complexity.
The white wines are made from Chardonnay, mainly from the Puligny-Montrachet area, where the influence of limestone terroir is expressed through citrus fruit, white flowers, chalky minerality and freshness.
Ageing is generally carried out in oak barrels, with some wines spending time on their lees (sur lie) to develop additional texture and complexity, while maintaining the focus on fruit purity and the expression of origin.
Domaine de La Pousse d’Or owns approximately 17–18 hectares of vineyards across the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits regions. The estate’s parcels are located in nine important Burgundy appellations, including Volnay, Pommard, Puligny-Montrachet, Chambolle-Musigny, Morey-Saint-Denis and Corton.
The domaine owns 7 Grand Cru and 11 Premier Cru plots, including three historic Volnay Premier Cru monopoles – Clos des 60 Ouvrées, Clos de la Bousse d’Or and Clos d’Audignac. These vineyards allow the estate to showcase the influence of Burgundy’s diverse limestone and clay soils on wine structure and character.
The philosophy of La Pousse d’Or is based not only on varietal expression but above all on the interpretation of place – each wine is crafted to reveal how individual terroirs shape the character of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
