The Produttori del Barbaresco cooperative was founded in 1958 and, over more than six decades, has become one of the finest Barbaresco wine producers and a world-class example for other wine cooperatives. Today it unites around 50 members, who collectively own 120 hectares of ‘Nebbiolo’ vineyards in the Barbaresco appellation.
Each family fully owns its land, and their names are featured on the labels when single-vineyard wines are produced. This tradition ensures a strong connection between the winemaker, the vineyard, and the consumer. The winery produces limited wines only in the highest-quality vintages, selecting the best grapes from nine prestigious Barbaresco crus: Asili, Rabajà, Pora, Montestefano, Ovello, Pajé, Montefico, Muncagota, and Rio Sordo.
Wine Style
Produttori del Barbaresco wines combine elegance, power, and longevity – a classic expression of ‘Nebbiolo’.
Prestigious Vineyards
The cooperative’s strength lies in its members’ prestigious ‘Nebbiolo’ plots spread across the Barbaresco appellation. The nine most important crus are:
Asili – the benchmark for elegance and aromatic refinement.
Rabajà – structured and long-lived wines.
Pora – softer, rounder in style.
Montestefano – powerful, tannic, and excellent for aging.
Ovello – fresh and long-lived, with pronounced acidity.
Pajé – refined and aromatic, with delicate floral notes.
Montefico – intense, concentrated, and mineral-driven.
Muncagota – elegant, fruity, and harmoniously balanced.
Rio Sordo – soft, rich, and velvety in texture.
Aging and Drinking Window
The wines are fermented in stainless steel tanks, then aged in large oak casks (‘botti grandi’) to preserve the aromatic purity and structure of ‘Nebbiolo’. Barbaresco DOCG is typically aged for about 24 months, while single-vineyard riserva is aged for at least 36 months, part of which is spent in the bottle.
These wines are long-lived – typically developing beautifully over 15–30 years. In youth, they charm with energy and freshness, while with maturity they reveal subtle complexity, velvety tannins, and a rich aromatic palette.
