Read moreThe Salomon family's wine journey is truly remarkable. While the name "Weingut Salomon Undhof" is historically tied to the deep traditions of Austrian white wines in the Kremstal region, winemaker Bert Salomon always dreamt of producing top-tier red wines. His love for Australia, sparked in the 1970s while working for the Schlumberger company, eventually became a reality. In 1995, he acquired the "Salomon Estate" winery in the Finniss River region, just 50 kilometers from Adelaide, successfully merging Old and New World winemaking.
Interestingly, Bert Salomon's expansion into Australia was not coincidental. Back in 1866, his ancestor Johann Nepomuk Hinteröcker emigrated from the Wachau region to Australia, where he worked at the historic Seven Hills winery and later founded St. Ignatius College. More than a century later, Salomon's descendants returned to the continent to continue the family's viticultural legacy.
For wine enthusiasts, this producer offers a choice between two radically different yet equally high-quality directions:
Thanks to their broad spectrum of styles, these wines are incredibly versatile at the dining table. The Austrian whites pair beautifully with poultry, fish, and light salads, while the powerful Australian reds demand dry-aged steaks or game dishes.
