Read moreThis producer put Armenia back on the modern wine map. The vineyards grow at an altitude of over 1,300 meters above sea level, where volcanic soil and huge temperature differences give the wines exceptional energy. The estate's signature is aging in authentic clay amphorae, which allows the wine to "breathe" without adding the spicy notes typical of oak barrels.
The estate's primary grape is the ancient Areni Noir. The resulting "Zorah Karasì" features elegance, silky tannins, and fresh aromas of red berries, herbs, and pepper. It is often compared to the best examples of Burgundy "Pinot Noir" or Piedmont "Nebbiolo".
Its elegant structure and crisp acidity make this wine incredibly versatile. It pairs wonderfully with traditional Caucasian dishes, roasted lamb, game, and grilled vegetables. It is also highly recommended to pair it with various hard cheeses from our wine snacks section.
Does wine aged in clay differ from oak-aged wine?
Yes, the amphorae (karas) allow the wine to naturally oxidize and round out, but unlike oak, they do not impart vanilla or toasty flavors, keeping the fruit profile much purer.
Who is this wine best gifted to?
It is an intellectual gift for people who love wine history, rare regions, and those always seeking undiscovered flavors.
