Red dry
Protos Granserva Ribera del Duero DO 2017 is a premium red wine from the famous Ribera del Duero region in Spain, made only in the best years and from selected Tempranillo (or Tinta del País) grapes. It is a mature, elegant and complex wine that reveals the authentic character of the region.
The aromas are dominated by black fruits (cherries, plums), tobacco, spices, smoke, a harmony of leather and roasted coffee notes. The taste is balanced, structured, with silky tannins, and a long aftertaste.
The grapes are hand-picked from old vines (40+ years old), harvested at high altitudes (700-900m above sea level), ensuring excellent fruit concentration and acidity balance.
After fermentation, the wine is aged:
24 months in oak barrels (50% French, 50% American oak)
36 months in bottle.
Tiekti 18–20°C prie laukinės paukštienos, ėrienos, minkštai pagamintos jautienos, juodojo šokolado.
Quite a powerful and nicely chewy wine that manages to maintain its balance, which shows the power and potential of Ribera del Duero. Ripe but fresh blackberries, dark minerals and sweet spices with a balsamic touch. Masses of tannins delivered in a chalky, tense form. Long and still quite youthful. Certainly ambitious and structural. Drink from 2025.
Bodegas Protos is one of the oldest and most authoritative wineries in the Ribera del Duero region, widely regarded as a historical cornerstone of the appellation. Founded in 1927, well before Ribera del Duero received official DO status, the name Protos (from Greek, meaning “first”) symbolizes its pioneering role in the region.
Bodegas Protos was among the key initiators that helped shape Ribera del Duero into a world-class region for high-quality red wines. Today, it is an internationally recognized producer, exporting its wines to more than 100 countries and successfully combining long-standing tradition with modern winemaking.
What makes the winery distinctive
Architecture and wine tourism
In 2008, Bodegas Protos opened a new winery in the Ribera del Duero region designed by renowned British architect Sir Richard Rogers. The building has become one of Spain’s most striking examples of contemporary wine architecture, serving not only a functional purpose but also highlighting the winery’s modern, forward-looking vision.
