Reichsgraf von Kesselstatt Josephshofer GG Riesling Trocken 2019

60,00

Description

The wine is made from a separate Josephshöfer vineyard, which is only 5 hectares in size. The southern slopes, where the vineyards grow up to 60 °, are 165 m above sea level. The soil is hard gray slate. Rich fruit notes reminiscent of orange zest, peach and apricot, rounded off with notable minerality on the finish. Powerful and full-bodied, yet elegant too. This wine has a long aftertaste.

Serving recommendations

Serve at 8-10 °C with Asian cuisine with soy sauce, Indian dishes with curry, meatier fish dishes, soft cheeses.

About brand

Reichsgraf von Kesselstatt is one of the oldest and most prestigious wineries in Germany, with a history dating back to the 14th century. Founded in 1349, the estate has spent more than 650 years shaping the reputation of the Mosel, Saar, and Ruwer regions as some of the world’s greatest Riesling terroirs.

History and Heritage

The name Reichsgraf von Kesselstatt is closely linked to German aristocracy and a long tradition of land ownership. Centuries of accumulated knowledge, historical archives, and uninterrupted winemaking practice allow the estate to see itself not only as a producer, but also as a custodian of regional heritage. The winery is still based in historic Baroque palaces in Trittenheim, symbolizing a unique fusion of culture, history, and wine.

Terroir as a Core Value

Reichsgraf von Kesselstatt is widely regarded as a benchmark for terroir-driven winemaking in Germany. The estate owns some of the most renowned and valuable vineyard sites in the Mosel region, including:

  • Brauneberger Juffer & Juffer Sonnenuhr
  • Josephshöfer
  • Scharzhofberger
  • Piesporter Goldtröpfchen, among others

Steep hillside vineyards with slate soils, dramatic slopes, and river-influenced microclimates give these Rieslings exceptional minerality, tension, and long aging potential.

Riesling Mastery

Reichsgraf von Kesselstatt focuses almost exclusively on Riesling, expressing the full stylistic spectrum of the variety:

  • Dry Grosses Gewächs (GG) – structured, deep wines with outstanding aging potential
  • Kabinett – light, precise wines with a subtle balance of acidity and fruit
  • Spätlese and Auslese – concentrated yet elegant styles, defined by a natural harmony between sweetness and acidity

Winemaking Principles

  • Member of VDP – Germany’s highest quality association
  • Strictly limited yields to enhance concentration
  • Hand harvesting on steep slopes
  • Fermentation with indigenous yeasts at low temperatures
  • Minimal intervention, allowing wines to develop naturally
  • Modern aging facilities ensuring purity, structure, and longevity

Style and Reputation

Reichsgraf von Kesselstatt wines are celebrated for:

  • crystalline clarity
  • tension and elegance
  • slow, graceful evolution in bottle
  • a precise expression of origin

They are favorites among collectors, top restaurant wine lists, and professional tastings, and are frequently cited among the finest Rieslings in the world.
