Description

Terre Nere Feudo di Mezzo Etna Rosso 2024 is a single vineyard wine, born in one of the most famous vineyards on the northern slope of Etna - Feudo di Mezzo. This cru is distinguished by a softer, velvety character and a very elegant expression of ‘Nerello Mascalese’. Producer Marco de Grazia’s philosophy is to convey the uniqueness of a specific vineyard as accurately as possible, which is why this wine is considered one of the most representative examples of the Feudo di Mezzo terroir.

The aromas are dominated by ripe cherries, strawberries and raspberries, complemented by dried rose petals, sweet spices, mountain herbs, light resin and volcanic stone. As it matures in the glass, subtle nuances of tobacco, forest floor and smoke are revealed, giving the aroma additional complexity.

The wine is elegant and precisely balanced. Silky tannins are combined with refreshing acidity, while the flavors of red berries, pomegranates and cherries are complemented by a mineral, long and refined aftertaste. Compared to other Etna crus, Feudo di Mezzo often has a rounder texture and softer tannins, while maintaining the characteristic energy of the volcanic terroir.

The vineyard is located at about 600 meters above sea level on the northern side of Etna. The roots of the old vines, 60-80 years old, penetrate deep soils of volcanic ash and lava, which give the wine minerality, elegance and longevity potential.

After fermentation, the wine is aged for about 14 months in French oak barrels, and briefly stabilized in stainless steel tanks before bottling.

Serving recommendations

Serve at 16-18° C. Recommended food pairings: duck breast, roasted quail, veal, mushroom risotto, slow-braised meat dishes, lasagna with ragù sauce and mature semi-hard cheeses. Due to its elegance and freshness, this wine also goes well with refined Mediterranean cuisine.

About brand

Tenuta delle Terre Nere is a prestigious Sicilian estate located on the northern slopes of Mount Etna, at 600–1,000 meters above sea level, near the town of Randazzo. Founded in 2002 by renowned Italian wine ambassador Marco de Grazia, it quickly became one of the most recognized wineries dedicated to expressing this unique terroir. The volcanic soils, rich in minerals, give the wines their distinctive character, while organic practices and meticulous handwork ensure authenticity and the highest quality.

Wine Style

Tenuta delle Terre Nere wines are celebrated for their elegance, finesse, and minerality, often described as Burgundy-style wines from Sicily.

Red wines – made primarily from ‘Nerello Mascalese’ with a small proportion of ‘Nerello Cappuccio’. They reveal expressive red fruit aromas, subtle notes of spice and herbs, silky tannins, and a mineral-driven, long-lasting finish. Often compared to ‘Pinot Noir’ for their structure and aromatic profile.

White wines – based on ‘Carricante’, stand out for their freshness, citrus and white flower notes, refined minerality, and precise acidity.

Prestigious Vineyards

One of the estate’s greatest strengths is its “cru” philosophy. Tenuta delle Terre Nere was among the first in Etna to vinify single-vineyard wines. Each cru has a unique character and expression: Calderara Sottana, Feudo di Mezzo, Guardiola, San Lorenzo, Santo Spirito, among others. These sites showcase Etna’s extraordinary soil diversity and allow the creation of highly refined and complex wines.

Aging and Drinking Window

Tenuta delle Terre Nere wines are matured with a delicate use of oak, enriching structure without overshadowing the terroir’s authenticity. Etna Rosso and Etna Bianco are best enjoyed young, when their fruit and freshness are most vibrant. The estate’s cru red wines, however, possess significant aging potential—over time they become increasingly complex, revealing the full depth and refinement of Etna’s terroir.
